Ethiopia First

HISTORY

Afrikin International Services was formed as an independent not-for-profit entity in the State of NY, by the originators of African Services Committee, a 42 year-old African immigrant and refugee health, legal, housing, and support organization, with offices in New York City and in two regions in Ethiopia- Tigray and Oromia.

AIS utilizes the best of its knowledge base, in providing health and community support services, promoting shelter rights, and legal protections in its Ethiopia-based programs for the marginalized and displaced. AIS is staffed exclusively by Ethiopian professionals and paraprofessionals, who have been trained to work in global human rights and global health settings.

Afrikin International Services’ history as a grass-roots, transnational organization, has prepared it to operate effectively across the North American and African continents;  to retain the self-sufficient, indigenous staffing structure and to identify and secure resources to support the growth of its humanitarian aid programs.  Despite being in the aftermath of genocide as severe as any in the world today, AIS has established a framework for its lasting support and resource generation in North America. It has designed and developed its programs in close accord with its beneficiaries in Ethiopia

The African continent at large, next.

Mission: To empower African women and children through programs of self-help and health promotion, such as elementary education, local small-scale clinic operation, poultry farming, beekeeping, weaving, maintaining pumps and wells, water transporting and other small cottage industries.
